This 1960’s film featuring typical sets from the period does rather well with Marlowe’s recent play of the tragic decision made by a German professor to sell his soul in exchange for 4 and 20 years of self gratification. As in the unique play, it is a very erudite work and features players from Oxford University as well as Burton at the height of his powers and his celebrated admire for Elizabeth Taylor projected here in the role of Helen of Troy. I have loved horses ever since I was a itsy-bitsy kid and any TV demonstrate that featured them as a regular theme has my interest. “Wildfire” is a mammoth reveal. The plots are moving and the horse action got me to support watching. It’s a shame ABC Family decided to raze this series, but I’m unruffled lokking forward to season four to be released on DVD.

You know, I have to agree with Mr. Erdelac – the movie is progressive for its time. For those of you who contemplate a movie by the degree to which it beats a political or social drum, there is considerable here to fancy.
But there is more. There is something artistic. There is an strange balance between melodrama and something really broad, something actually advantageous to the viewer. What are some of these reviewers thinking? I objective watched this movie for the first time, and considering the period, this has got to be one of the most progressive films ever to near out of the 1930’s. Yes, like most, I inwardly cringed at the discover of `Isaiah’ whistling and smart shoes during the opening credits, but I really felt that the character damage up being considerable more than a stereotypical clown (this is NOT Gone With The Wind) . There is a lot of talk of Dix’s overracting and praise for Dunne. I idea Dix captured the blustery over the top persona of Yancey Cravat (who was based on a real-life gunslinging attorney who was a son of Sam Houston -the courtroom soliloquy to set aside the prostitute is culled directly from historic relate) perfectly. I particularly liked the scene where he `crows’ at the terrible guy in challenge. Yes, Dunne did a glorious job as well portraying a character who represents all the economic and social intolerance of the period. The film is shot well. The Land Run is spacious, as is that scene where Dunne runs through the spattered men of the oil field at the kill (it reminded me of Claudia Cardinale walking through the slew of rail workers at the waste of Once Upon A Time In The West) . There are shots during the emigration of the Cravats from Kansaas which also discontinue in the mind. The lantern hanging from the rear axle of the wagon, only illuminating the turning wheels on either side, while Cravat lowly sings his signature tune was a stroke of genius, and the Kid and his gang riding out of the shaded and empty land into their campsite is well done. The sound on the VHS is a cramped poor, with a lot of background philosophize occassionally overwhelming the dialogue. I hope if this ever gets to DVD they can fix this.

I mediate this is an essential film that has been sorely overlooked because of the decline of the western in celebrated culture and the finger pointing of the PC crowd. You’ve got to stare deeper than the veneer, but I really contain this to be an improbable achievement historically, cinematically, and in the portrayal and ultimate breaking of racial stereotypes. Best Portray of 1930. I would’ve given it four stars, but the VHS copy isn’t large. O considerable masters of DVD transfer, except Cimarron into thy trust! Amen!

I won’t go into the details of this movie, one because it really should be enjoyed without any preface, and two because it has been described elsewhere. I rented the movie purely to behold Gong Li, who is one of the most splendid actresses out there. I was absolutely blown away by this film. The fable, the acting, the flow; everything about it was masterful. I am a substantial fan of Zhang Yimou, but this film far outshines any other work he’s done before or after. Gong’s acting is edifying, matched entirely by You Ge. The scene with the “tea” revenge caught me so offhand, in both the touching portral of Chinese family life mixed with the astounding quirky humor, that I laughed out loud and nearly choked on some ice tea I was drinking at the time. 10 minutes later I was crying my eyes out. This movie left me shaking at the ruin, and I kept reliving scenes over and over days after I returned the rental. “To Live” is one of the best all-time films ever made, period.
Unfortunately foreign movies do not collect the credit and publicity they deserve. If only people would be more inaugurate minded about foreign movies, they would peruse the movie “To Live”. To Live is a movie about life itself. It reflects what the approved people in China experienced during the Cultural Revolution. We follow the life of an ordinary family that goes through many hardships, wondering if they would live or die. Through the hard times, it makes them realize how distinguished life, family, and worship really is. Ultimately in a country where there is so worthy chaos and tragedy, the only thing the people want, is TO LIVE. The actors/actresses in this movie are dazzling, Gong Li is absolutely lovely. I own that her role in To Live is the most considerable and finest compared to all of her other movies. Somehow I can not interpret it but Chinese movies have a intention of portraying a person’s character, their emotions in such a blueprint that hits you factual on the station. That is something that American movies have not achieved yet. This movie will create you bellow, laugh, and be thankful that you are alive. We pick up, we lose, life is not easy. I recommend this movie for anyone and everyone. It will originate you reflect about your bear life and be more thankful for what you have and don’t have. What a delight to accept this chronicle on film. Acorn has done a unbelievable job of presentation. OK, one negative, no English sub-titles for us blokes that can’t procure all of the down-under slang and dialect. But it’s not a vast quandary. Exercise reverse if needed. It is determined not worth turning your assist on this toothsome and heartwarming yarn of father and daughter.
It’s not your normal “Father Knows Best” 40s/50s tale of Dad and girl. Actually, Mac has a hard time taking care of Buster since his desire and ambition is walking the road and roaming for work and a livelihood. He takes his daughter to spite his wife, and has to learn parenthood on the road. Many time he relates to Buster miserably. At these points, Mac deserves the viewers rage and despise. Mac is honest to tough on Buster, to lacking of empathy. Mac shows almost no esteem or tender emotion to the young child. Boo, Exclaim, for the dad. Then, Buster will chew on him a bit, smile wide, and all is well for a few more dusty kilometers on the road.
Before the 3+ hours are over, you will inaugurate to wonder why you bothered watching the snide, beastly-dad, Mac. But don’t give up, be pleased the drama, the scenery, and eventually you’ll advance to catch out why this is a 5-STAR film, wonderful of the $$$ and time.

I was very impressed, the quality and English dubbing I opinion was top notch! The minor character of Samara was fair a tad off the lip sync, but it was trivial. Kei and Yuri were mighty more in character than in ADV’s Flight 005 Conspiracy.
ADV Films – Gargantuan Job!
I did glimpse that at the bottom of every first frame and top of every last frame at EVERY scene change had distortion… Its GLUE! You can inspect the frame distortion of the master film from splicing the scenes together!!! First time I observed that!!! If you peer it on a normal TV, this shouldn’t be seen due to overscan.
Keep in mind that the 4 and 5 star reviews for this were written by fans of the series nostalgic to examine them return in DVD format. Also realize they’re describing an animation that is now approaching its third decade, and fully looks and sounds like it. Not having seen them before recently, I am VERY aware of all the shortcomings; but rather than fault this for a lack of technology that simply didn’t exist at the time it was made, I’d rather talk about its merit as a work of “art”.

The script is VERY lame, providing NO clue as to what or who ANY of the characters are. Even our eponymous heroines, Kei and Yuri ( THERE’S an appropriate name! ), impartial appear in their usual off-hand fashion with no dependable introduction. The box art claims, “The Dirty Pair’s FIRST Mission!”; but that can’t be the case, because we’re obviously supposed to already know all about them, their reputation for causing mayhem, their “pet” Mughi, and the organization they characterize. If you don’t already know any of this, though you can probably figure most of it out, it’ll hold a while. Their reputation DOES go them however, to the antagonistic Chief of Security with whom they must deal while trying to derive their “client”, a missing child with mysterious powers.
Without delving too far into such “space” as there is, one must effect the sloppy scheme it unfolds as the duo searches for her out in the wilderness of Nolandia. There are plenty of opportunities for the usual “gratutious fanservice” this series is well-known for; but it’s all very tame nudity, even with the suggestion of the ever-popular hentai “tentacle rape”, mostly occurring in Kei’s hacullination. Probably needless to say, there are holes in the status sizable enough to sail the Dazzling Angel through; from exactly HOW this minute girl is living in the jungle alone by herself, to objective how many and what kind of hits does it consume to down a demented android? ( And unbiased what IS Mughi, anyway? )

I don’t care if the film is historically mistaken. Errol Flynn may not have been an ideal figure in proper life but the movies he was in, well, I was raised with the 30’s and 40’s films and his films always gave me a hero to survey up to and how things should have been done. They inspired me and taught me apt from wicked and how to treat people fairly. Along with my Dad’s guidelines, I was better for it. That’s all I care about, not whether it was historically lawful. Mr. Flynn, even in valid life, was a chip off the aged block. I cherish this film. I grew up with it and it serene gets an emotional rise out of me when I notion it. Its what Custer should have been in my understanding and as a young boy watching this for the first time, influenced me for the rest of my life. Errol Flynn was my hero after I saw this and his WWII Burma movie. Its a shame he’s gotten a awful shake from the critics whether now or in the past.
After “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” this is Errol Flynn’s best movie. As celebrated elsewhere, it’s worthless as history. But the casting of Flynn as Custer has a resonance that burns up the conceal, and tedious the romanticism one glimpses a portrait of an glum, self-destructive man who is a hero in spite of himself. Flynn’s farewell scene with Olivia de Havilland is almost unbearably absorbing, as if both sensed the real-life parallel and the future awaiting them both. Having said that, my review is of the KINO dvd release, a very glowing one as this company does not distribute anything less(you pay more, but if you know anything about tranquil and classic movies it will be no secret to you that if you pay peanuts that is exactly what you will score….) …it is however disconserting to witness that even the best available dvd release tranquil hasn’t been cleaned up to the degree that other classic restful masterpieces have..surely with todays technology a digital “hoovering” of this film is not too remarkable to ask.
Wonderful film of course, but you know that otherwise you wouldn’t even be reading these reviews, and the KINO version is, so far, the best you can accumulate for your money.

I had watched many poorly-made VHS tapes of this film and was very satisfied a restored version came out on video. There’s probably no better design to stare this film.
